Foreplay and hiphop
You wake up in the morning, sit down with a hot cup of Darjeeling tea and turn the pages of the newspaper, the first thing that catches your eyes are some stupid print ads of some unknown brands. Hair Removing Cream for Men. It can't get better than this. I think its the most creative product and the product descriptor itself opens up so many creative thoughts in your mind. But what the ad agency managed to create is some nuisance. God save them.

Tropicana - Natural Energy. Lame and such wastage
Well, I've nothing against brands or agencies doing gimmicks as part of their marketing communication. Call it Alternative Marketing or whatever shit you want to name it but the whole essence of communication should be meaningful. Tropicana's - Natural Energy is just lame and really wasteful. I would have rather gave those oranges to poor people to eat/ juice up and drink. Am sure some will think it's a cool idea. But sorry I think otherwise. Total wastage. Bad show DDB Paris.
What do you think?

Why formulaic ads don't cut ice anymore.
Now we all know that the ad world is filled with cliches. Cliches in strategy, usp, proposition, execution.. long list. but this is heights. JWT India created a good ad for Kitkat, I mean the squirrel one. It's good because it had some insight and proposition that strongly connects with brand KitKat - Take a Break from your work to see/observe and enjoy the finer things of life. To the point. Clutter breaking execution. Refreshing communication and fun to watch.
But they just had to spoil an opportunity with Nestea by blindly copying the same formula. Animals, animation, an old remixed Bollywood number. No insight, no observation, not refreshing at all and definitely not funny.
I don't know why but this is a good example of being lazy. Oh the client already bought the previous execution idea, so let's do something similar again and it will click. It might click with the brand manager but surely not with the consumers.
Opportunity lost. Amen.

Jiyo Mere Lal

Something is terribly wrong with the advertising agencies and clients in India at the moment. No am serious. In the last three months at least four brands have jumped into the "Jiyo" bandwagon. Now let me not get into explaining what might be the reason but stupidity has its own limit (at least Diesel says upfront why they are stupid.)
Trust me it is pathetic. What were the creative guys thinking? How could the client ever buy such shit? Funnily how could the client even spend media money on such non-sense? Do they really think Indian consumers are such morons that they will accept anything this agencies produce?
Go Jiyo
Jiyo Easy
Jiyo Befikar
Jiyo Life
What is it? A brand promise? Brand proposition? Brand Philosophy? Headlines?
Honestly I'm feeling ashamed to even tell people I work in advertising.
What do you guys think?

summer... beaches... bushes... hedges...
It's summer. It's recession. It's ok we do understand you (marketers) need to innovate and open new opportunities for yourselves, but Pubic Hair? Are you kidding me? You mean jobless men and women in US and UK have grown lots of bushes and hedges that needs cleaning. That's the new market you've identified. Shaving blade for Pubic Hair in the disguise of body cleaning as future growth potential. Bloody brilliant. I love my industry.
So Wilkinson Quattro has identified women as their target audience. Asking them to mow their lawn and decorate their hedges for summer.
While Gillette thinks its better to talk to men and show them ways to make their trees look taller.
Interesting times call for interesting actions. Hien? What about the shrubs in ma butt hole ???

Indian Terrain - Characteristics Lost
We do understand, fashion advertising today has become more of a catalogue than advertising, displaying shirts and suits in its fullest glory. Every brand does the same and that's exactly what Indian Terrain has decided to do. let me know if I'm wrong. But hey, what's in it for me? Just because you have Kunal Kapoor as the face of your brand, doesn't mean anything to me nor to anyone. Why will someone buy you? Why will I choose Indian Terrain over other brands? Does Indian Terrain have a belief system, something that consumers believe too? Are you trying to be cool by simply showing his cool attitude. Do you think the photography will do all the talking? Huh. This ad rather reminds me more of Milind Soman in Excalibur - more manly, more macho, more cool.Wonder what will happen to the brand when Kunal decides to shave and cut his hair short?

So Lowe
SX4 is launched and no ones talking about it. Now that’s not manly at all. It looks like a direct copy/paste work of the Bajaj Pulsar “Definitely Male” campaign. Were the creative guys in Lowe thinking about how to position SX4 as a male car? Or they might think, if Pulsar can position their bikes as a male and become so successful, then why not us?
Whatever it is, the quality of thinking behind the campaign is poor, in all its sense. Something not expected from the Lighthouse Agency of the Lowe network.
Do you have something to say?
